A "Jack Be Nimble" Prayer

Do you remember this nursery rhyme?

JACK BE NIMBLE

Jack, be nimble,
Jack, be quick,
Jack, jump over
The candlestick.

Jack jumped high
Jack jumped low
Jack jumped over
and burned his toe.

Jack tried everything to avoid being burned in this nursery rhyme, yet he still ended up burning his toe.  That's the problem with fire.  If we play with it, we're going to end up getting burned.

In our lives, sin is like fire.  If we play with it, we're going to get burned--no matter how nimble or quick we think we are.

If I were re-writing Jack Be Nimble to show what God can do for Jack, it would go something like this:

Jack be faithful,
Cut the wick.
Jack, stay away
From the candlestick.

Jack kept praying
Jack said "no"
Jack was unscathed
From his head to his toe.

God can protect you from the fire of sin, too.  All you have to do is trust Him and obey His Word.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Guard us from the fire of sin.  Help us to trust and obey You, Lord.  We long to be pleasing to You.  Forgive us for the many times and ways we have failed You before.

May we walk in the light of Your blessing today and every day as we learn Your truth.

In Jesus name we pray,

AMEN.
