Yours for the Asking

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.  You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.  Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” John 14:12-14

What does it mean to ask for something in Jesus name? Does it mean that if I pray and ask God for a new car, that a Maserati will appear in my driveway, neatly wrapped with a bow? Probably not. Does it mean that if I end my prayer with, “In Jesus name” that it will seal my request, and then I’ll get what I ask for? No.

Then, what does it mean?

If we examine this passage of Scripture more closely, we see in the second half of verse 13 that our requests will be granted “so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” We also see in verse 12 that we must believe. In addition, I John 5:14 tells us Christ’s qualifications for our requests, “And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him.”

If we know Him . . . if we are His children, then we know what pleases Him. And, we can ask confidently for anything in His name, and He will do it. Now, that’s powerful!

May the power of knowing Christ—REALLY knowing Him—be evident in your life today. And, may it be the best day you’ve ever had in your life.
